Brand Photoshoot That Captures Your Real Lifestyle

You can’t achieve an authentic brand voice by faking your brand photos. Make sure your brand photoshoot is real!

Plan a brand photoshoot that captures your REAL lifestyle. Craft a shot list for your photographer that's authentic.

I did my last brand photoshoot for the official launch of my online course, BYOB: Brand Your Own Business, and my photographer (Cassandra Eldridge) asked me to send over some ideas of shots I wanted to do. As per usual, I took to Pinterest to get some inspo. But I quickly realized that the “typical” lifestyle shots don’t really relate to my personal lifestyle. I’m hardly ever drinking coffee in bed…because I’d spill it everywhere. I don’t usually find myself at a market buying fresh flowers…because when they die I leave them on the counter for weeks before I finally throw them out. And I don’t think I’ve ever put on a dress and heels to work during the day…uh, because leggings.

So, I put together a shot list for my photographer to capture MY lifestyle…a list of shots that capture what a real day-in-the-life looks like for me. Because that’s what my audience wants to see. And what YOUR audience wants to see. That’s the point of authentic branding and why it works!

I suggest, if you find yourself organizing a brand photoshoot for yourself & your biz, that you keep it real.

Don’t take pictures for your business based on shots everyone else is posting. Take photos that capture what YOUR lifestyle looks like. Capture your vibe, your essence, your brand!

Here’s what my shot list looked like:

  • Working from bed/the couch
  • Client calls outside
  • Shopping
  • Coffee shop office
  • Beach hangs
  • Going to yoga
  • Smoothies
  • Playing with my pup
  • Reading all the books
  • Healthy cooking
  • Jamming out
  • Writing
  • So many to-do lists
  • “Wine”ding down 😉

What would your list look like? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Lauren – This is great! Would also love to know how to FIND a photographer! I find a lot of photographers that just do head shots or will give you one digital file of one picture, which clearly wouldn’t acomodate a shot list. Thank you!

Hey babe! So glad you liked the post 🙂 I discovered Cassandra (my photographer) on Instagram. I’m obsessed with her work! She’s in South Florida but she travels ALL over the world to shoot. Here’s her site >><< Let her know I sent you. Otherwise, I'd advise you to try finding one on Instagram. Search hashtags that are specific to your area. Like I was searching #southfloridaphotography. And start following and connecting with people through that.

      • Great idea! Thank you!!

  2. All of this is so true! I tell my clients all the time that while Pinterest is great, having your particular personality is most important. That’s why we have a sit down to talk before the session. If it doesn’t look like you then it won’t be the best it can be, and that’s not quality.

Thanks for this great list! I just met with a photographer today and was thinking the same thing as your list. I want outside and real-life and such. No sitting holding a coffee cup. Thank you!

I’m so glad to help! Do you, be yourself. That’s what your people want.
